The need for long-term care services can occur at any age. Approximately 40% of long-term care service users are working age adults. Younger people need long-term care because of certain diseases, car accidents, strokes and other disabling events.

Paying for long-term care can be financially devastating if you haven’t planned for it. Most long-term care expenses are not covered by Medicare or other healthcare insurance plans, and the costs can be staggering should you require around-the-clock care. Thus, if one were to apply for Medicaid, they should know that it is widely recognized as an extremely complicated and challenging process. There are many reasons why it is so complicated. Whether it is proper spend down of resources, gathering all the information i.e. bank statements and submitting all the information to the proper officials.

Many families ask these questions and hear stories about the extensive application process, but it is worth it to receive the benefit that will help offset the price of long term care.  The Department of Veterans Affairs has developed a program for veterans and their surviving spouses that can help defray the cost of assisted living services.
